Most of our clearing work is for homeowners taking back an overgrown back yard, a side passage, or a section that has just got away over a few seasons. We tackle the lot in one visit: trees, stumps, scrub, brambles, old hedges and any vegetation in between.
Common residential clearing jobs
- Overgrown back yards. Years of neglect, often a mix of self-seeded trees, blackberry, brambles and old hedge remnants. We cut it back to bare ground.
- Old hedges past their useful life. Leylandii at 8 metres, macrocarpa gone hollow, hedges where the bottom has thinned out. Down and gone, ready for replanting or fencing.
- Front gardens for a redesign. Cleared back to a blank canvas for new planting, lawn or landscaping.
- Boundary clean-ups. Clearing along fence lines, over-the-boundary growth from neighbours, encroaching scrub from a reserve edge.
- Stump fields. Several stumps left from earlier removals, ground out together in one visit.
- Lifestyle blocks. Paddock corners, fence lines and small patches of regrowth. We can also clear failing shelterbelts of macrocarpa, gum or pine and prepare the line for replanting.
- Storm aftermath. Bulk windfall and broken-off trees cleared down to ground level.

- Stump grinding to grade where you want to replant, lay turf or build over.
- On-site chipping, chips removed or left as mulch if you can use them.
- Firewood rounds left stacked on site if you want them.
- Final site clean: surface raked, hard surfaces blown down.
If your trees are protected. Some larger trees are covered by council District Plan rules. We check the rules for your address before quoting. Where there’s a genuine reason to remove a protected tree, we can put together the case and approach council on your behalf to argue for consent.
Builders, developers and lifestyle blocks
